The Kentucky Department of Agriculture's Forage Testing Program provides nutritional value information for Kentucky producers! Forage testing enables producers to determine the fair market value of their forages and compare the quality of their forage from year to year. Whether raising forages to sell or to feed, forage testing can help producers minimize cost and maximize production. This service is eligible for Kentucky producers only. If you grow hay in Kentucky or buy hay and live in Kentucky, you qualify for this service! The testing service cost is $10 per sample. The producer receives an analysis report of the forage's nutritional value and an "Interpreting Forage Quality Report" guide. Contact your local County Extension Agent for help with pulling samples and shipping them to KDA for analysis. To ensure that samples are properly collected, KDA recommends producers and County Extension Agents complete a free, one-hour course provided by the National Forage Testing Association (NFTA). This training can be accessed online at foragetesting.org, by click on the "Certification" tab.
